November 2023

  • Open Data and Open Infrastructure Hackathon 2023 (20 November -18 December). When a handful of large corporations control 90% of the world’s data and IT infrastructures, the goal of this hackathon is to educate and inspire developers toward an alternative design — decentralized infrastructures as opposed to centralised proprietary systems. Virtual Hack. Up to $5,000 prizes. 

October 2023

  • RIMPA – Can You Hack It? (2-3 October).  A never done before Global event with Knowledge Professionals, Engineers and Technology experts. $10,000 in prizes. Register for virtual or in-person hacking at the Gold Coast RACV Royal Pines Resort.

August 2023

  • Vibewire’s Hack4Housing (11-12 August). Sydney Hackathon. Join Australia’s leading technology, engineering and social impact students, social entrepreneurs, startups and the best creative minds to tackle the challenge of homelessness and housing insecurity. $1,000 cash prize. 
  • Web3 and AI Hackfest (18 August). The Australian Blockchain Club (ABC), CloudTech Group and JR Academy have partnered together to launch HackFest: Hack the Planet, harnessing AI and Web3 to build a sustainable future. The objective of the event is to take advantage of the interest in these disruptive technologies to incentivise young coders and developers to solve real-world problems.

April 2023

  • Circle Hackathon 2023: Hack for Good (25 April – 22 May). Make a difference to pressing challenges faced by communities in the Asia Pacific region and shape the future of money. With access to Circle’s powerful APIs, you’ll be empowered to develop innovative solutions that could make a lasting impact. The Hackathon is designed to provide a unique learning experience for developers. 60,000 USDC worth of prizes up for grabs!

March 2023

  • ETHPorto inaugural Web3 hackathon and conference (Online, three-day event 16-18 March). The three-day hackathon has been independently organized to bridge Web3 solutions with Porto’s most prominent industries, such as fishing, wine production and agriculture. ETHPorto brings international and local perspectives together to produce DApps addressing real-world problems, while also making the professional opinions of Web3 thought-leaders accessible to hackers and attendees. Interested parties can apply to hack on the website.

    February 2022

    • UniHack 2022 (AUS, 25 February – 27 February) – In partnership with Atlassian, this three day hack brings together teams of students from across the country to pitch their disruptive, market-ready projects to leaders in tech. First prize includes $4000 in cash and Amazon Echo Show 8s for each team member.
    • Tomorrow’s World: Better Together (WA, 23 February) – This one day hack brings together students, industry, business, government, academics and community leaders to explore the solutions of tomorrow for some of society’s most complex problems today.

    March 2022

    • Smart Holiday Workshop – Beginners Coding + Robotics (NSW, 12 April 2022) – This one day workshop is from the University of Newcastle’s SMART Program, for kids age 8-12 in beginners coding and robotics. Kids work in pairs, small groups, and individually, to build coding and problem solving skills throughout the day.
    • Australian Rover Challenge (ADELAIDE, 25 March – 27 March) – Join university students from across Australia as they design and build a rover to compete in a full-scale simulated lunar mission. The event at the North Terrace campus, University of Adelaide, South Australia is free.
    • Global Legal Hackathon 2022 (GLOBAL, 25 March – 27 March) – The world’s largest learning laboratory for legal industry innovation.
    • Hacker X (MELBOURNE, AUS | Virtual | 29 March) – An invite-only recruiting event for developers, Hacker X is active in over 175+ cities globally with a community of over 100,000+ members. They’ve hand-picked some of the top developers in the city so employers don’t have to. Employers can meet face-to-face with qualified developers and make that great next hire.
    • Hacker X (SYDNEY, AUS | In person | 16 March) – An invite-only recruiting event for developers, Hacker X is active in over 175+ cities globally with a community of over 100,000+ members.     • WomenHack Employer (NSW SYDNEY, 28 April) – From 6:30 – 9:00 PM, the womenhack.com events kick off with diversity talks, followed by its’ 5min rapid interviews then open networking which gives employers the opportunity to connect with candidates. WomenHack is about working towards the equalizing of the playing field in the tech industry and building diverse and inclusive teams which everyone benefits from.
    • WomenHack Attendee (NSW SYDNEY, 28 April) – Meet up to 20 companies in 2 hours. WomenHack’s events kick off with diversity talks, followed by its’ 5min rapid interviews then open networking giving attendees and employers the opportunity to connect.       • Microsoft Azure Responsible AI Hackathon (Online & Global, 25 Apr –  6 June) – Use your creativity, passion, and technical acumen to create an open-source application that leverages Azure solutions and applies Responsible AI principles.
      • Al 4 Science (Online, 1 May – 27 May) – Registration is open via ai4science.io and closes on 22nd May 2022, 23:59PM. A 3 week online hackathon for students and researchers AI4Science  aims to bring together AI researchers with experts from other disciplines to push modern AI tools into every area of science and engineering. Sponsored by DeepVerse, Bota Bio, Chemical.AI, and Foreseen Biotech the hackathon provides a cross-disciplinary platform to foster innovations, where you can present your ideas and meet other brilliant minds. Participant teams will get opportunities and there’s $38,750 in prizes.
      • MedHack Connect and Elevate (VIC & Online, 3 May – 8 May) – Melbourne’s premier student-run Healthcare Innovation hackathon. Every year, we bring students together at the intersection of design, engineering, healthcare and entrepreneurship in a 48 hour sprint to help reimagine the future of healthcare. MedHack is open to all regardless of home university, discipline, creed or experience – you don’t have to be from Monash University or studying biomedical engineering, industrial design or medicine to join.
      • Supernova Internet Computer Web3 Hackathon (Online, 10 May – 10 June). The  hackathon begins 10th of May 2022, but submissions are accepted until June 20th 11:45 PM Pacific Time. Web3 is the new phase of the web, which will transform the internet, and provide extraordinary opportunities to developers and entrepreneurs. This hackathon provides you with the chance to start building using the most advanced Web3 platform in existence today, and win large prizes, grants and seed investments in the process.
      • Telstra Clean Energy Hackathon (VIC, 12 May) – The transition to renewable energy offers genuinely game-changing opportunities for innovation. In this two-part hackathon, Telstra is calling on you to help develop unique solutions to the challenges we face as the City of Melbourne heads to net zero. No experience necessary. Come with or without a team. Just bring your creativity and collaborative mindset with the aim to create smart solutions for the future of clean energy in Melbourne.
      • Microsoft Sentinel Hackathon – Spring 2022 (Online & Global, 16 May). Deadline to register is 16 May 2022 @ 9:00am PDT. Cybersecurity next: The challenge! Build end-to-end cybersecurity solutions for Microsoft Sentinel that delivers enterprise value by collecting data, managing security, detecting, hunting, investigating, and responding to cybersecurity threats!
      • Girls in Tech Australia Conference 2022 (VIC & Online, 18 May). Find your community, sharpen your skills and learn how to thrive in tech! High impact keynotes, inclusive panel discussions and intimate group workshops led by leaders of the tech and business sectors will focus on this year’s theme “Tech, reimagined – what’s our role in the future of the internet?”
      • Research + MedTech + HealthTech Mixer (NSW, 19 May). Want to meet ‘the people in your neighbourhood’? Get yourself along to this fun casual mixer and find out what your fellow health and medical people have been up to. You might meet a co-founder, you might meet an investor, you might meet a mentor, or maybe even a friend for life. But you’ll definitely walk away with a High Feelgood Factor for the future health and medicine research and innovation in Tech Central!
      • C2 Create & Collaborate Career Hack (NSW, 30 May). Are you thinking about your future career path? Want a chance to build women led-teams in future-focussed companies? The C2 Create and Collaborate Career Hack is a half day event that gives you a chance to work directly with technical and technology based firms that have been traditionally male-dominated. You’ll work with other women to design pathways for careers in these companies, or solve a problem with women-led teams. And you could win mentoring or internships with the companies!

      June 2022

      • SpaceHack – Mitigating Climate Change (AUS, 16 June – 17 June). An initiative by the Canberra Innovation Network and UNSW Canberra, this year’s challenge is: Climate Change How can an existing or emerging space technology be used in a novel way to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change?” To take part, participants will needs to be registered as a team of between 3 to 6 people and appoint a Team Captain, and be available for the two days 6th – 17th June. This year’s SpaceHack Mentors are from different fields within the space industry, venture capital, research and governance, they’ll offer SpaceHack teams a unique mix of experiences, expertise and connections.
      • monday.com climate change app challenge (Online, 25 Apr – 27 June). The monday.com climate change apps challenge is a contest bringing developers around the world together with the mission to build apps that can help teams and organizations take an active role combating climate change. All apps should be built on monday.com Work OS— a no-code/low-code platform. $160, 000 in perks and prizes, judging panel from monday.com.

      • Humanitarian Innovation Hackathon 2022 (AUS, Online, 22 July 202 – 24 July) Join either in person or online the University of Sydney’s The Warren Centre & Professor Ron Johnston Humanitarian Innovation Hackathon. This annual hackathon asks university students to identify practical solutions for real and current problems from an existing international humanitarian response context. The 2022 Challenge is The Tonga Eruption And Tsunami – Emergency in the Pacific. The hackathon program features industry leading speakers, team bonding, facilitated mentoring, and exciting diversions that mix up the digital and face to face competition. Prizes are up to $5,000 plus gift cards and there’s awards; the Humanitarian Innovation Awards Medals and UNSDG Badges.

      August 2022

      • National Science Week 2022 Hackathon – Glass: More Than Meets the Eye (AUS, 15 August – 19 August) – The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) Hackathon is open to high school students: junior (7 to 8) and senior (9 to 11). Teachers can now register interest, there’s prizes to win and an expert judging panel. The specific challenge areas brief is to be released in mid 2022. ANSTO is offering teachers professional development sessions (online and in person) in Design Thinking at the start of Term 3, to support them in delivering this mini-challenge as a stand-alone or precursor activity to the Hackathon.
      • GovHack (AUS, 19 August – 21 August) – a festival of ideas event across Australia and New Zealand supporting the co-creation of community focused solutions using open government data. The 46 hour Hackathon is over one weekend, using Open Government Data.

      October 2022

      • NASA International ‘Space Apps’ Challenge (Online, 1 – 2 October) – A NASA led initiative organized in collaboration with Booz Allen Hamilton, Mindgrub, SecondMuse, and the NASA Open Innovation Applied Sciences Program. The Space Apps international hackathon is open to coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and others in cities around the world with an interest in exploring our planet and/or universe using science and technology, creativity, and a desire to learn. All ages, skill levels, and professional backgrounds are welcome. What takes place, is that for two days participants get together at hundreds of in-person and virtual local events to “make inventive solutions to real-world challenges using actual data from space”! After the Space Apps hackathon the submitted projects are judged by space agency experts and the winners are selected for one of the 10 Global Awards. Partners for 2022 include the Australian Space Agency.

      • HATCH Toronga Accelerator Program 2023 (AUS, Online, 1 November) Calling on innovators, thought leaders, disruptors, developers, passionate individuals and everyone in between to help develop and implement brilliant ideas for the planet. Applications open 1 November 2022 with judging and public pitch event taking place 27 June – 28 June 2023. HATCH aims to inspire, support and launch innovative ideas and actions to help address some of the most pressing environmental and conservation challenges currently facing our planet.       • Polkadot Hackathon: APAC Edition (NSW, 22 November – 12 December) – This seven-week hackathon is your chance to build a blockchain or hack to your heart’s content.
      • The CERI Long Mile Hack (WA, 2 – 3 December) – This hackathon invites young technologists, designers, business strategists and creative innovators to solve real-world challenges. Each challenge involves a complex set of problems and the winning team will be selected to develop their idea over a 12 month period.

      • Telstra Innovation Hackathon 2021 (Online/Australia, 3 – 25 November) – Here is your opportunity to ideate, design and build solutions, alongside corporate pioneers and technology leaders! Registrations are now open. The Stakes? A prize pool of AUD $20k and much more…
      • OpenSource Hackathon (Online/Canberra, 22 – 26 November) – This hackathon provides participants with support to generate ground-breaking ideas and launch a high-growth impactful business leveraging OpenSource technologies, with a prize pool of up to $10,000.

      • H2OHACK – Solving Water Challenges from Space (online, 11-15 October) – Calling all innovators excited by the opportunity to solve water challenges by leveraging space technologies, innovation and entrepreneurship.
      • Taiwan Presidential Hackathon (Online/NSW, 4 August-14 October) – Applications for this hackathon close on August 4. This hackathon was initiated by the Taiwanese government to encourage data owners, data scientists and field experts to work together to accelerate the optimization of public services.       • Visualisation Matters 2021 Hackathon (Online/NSW, 2 September) – This hackathon is being run by UNSW EPICentre and Woollahra Council as part of the Double Vision Public Art Project and is open to anyone, Participants will work in teams of 2 to 4 to produce an artwork that will be digitised into a video or a still image as part of this event.
      • MedHack: Empowered (Online/VIC, 3-5 September) – This hack focuses on the intersection of healthcare, design and technology where we bring together interdisciplinary students across Victoria in a 48-hour sprint to help reimagine the future of healthcare, focusing on chronic disease.
      • Taiwan Presidential Hackathon (Online/NSW, 4 August-14 October) – Applications for this hackathon close on August 4. This hackathon was initiated by the Taiwanese government to encourage data owners, data scientists and field experts to work together to accelerate the optimization of public services. This hackathon was initiated by the Taiwanese government to encourage data owners, data scientists and field experts to work together to accelerate the optimization of public services. This hackathon calls for participants from around the world to propose open data solutions for a more sustainable environment worldwide.
      • WA Health Hackathon Week 2021 (Perth, 16-22 August) – This hackathon week will bring together a diverse group of data professionals, digital specialists and students to explore digital and data-driven solutions to real-world healthcare challenges.
      • GovHack (Online/NSW, 20-22 August) – This hackathon gives you the opportunity to use open government data to come up with ideas for problems worth solving.

      • Humanitarian Innovation Hackathon (Hybrid (online and Sydney) 23-25 July) – This is a weekend-long virtual event designed for university students (must be university students to participate) to work collaboratively in cross-discipline teams to create technology-driven solutions for the most pressing humanitarian challenges.

      • The Pepper Code (Newcastle NSW, 4-7 May) – Over the course of 3 nights to build and code new interactions for Newcastle Libraries famous Library Assistant, Pepper the Robot.
      • City of Newcastle Innovation Games (Newcastle NSW, 5 May) – The City of Newcastle National Innovation Games will focus on innovative solutions to improve disability inclusion in Newcastle – ‘Inclusion 365: Navigating Physical and Digital Worlds’.

      • Hackiethon by HackMelbourne (Online/VIC, 2-5 April) – Australia’s Premier Rookie Hackathon for students who want to experience the tech hackathon scene. This hack removes some of the barriers to joining hackathons to help you experience the enjoyment and learning of a hackathon in a beginner-friendly environment.
      • Chronicle Hackathon 2021 (Online/VIC, 9-11 April) – This Hackathon sponsored by Google is open to all University students across Australia!
      • Short Film Hackathon (Zetland, 16-18 April) – This 2-day hack will help you learn all of the fundamentals of storytelling through film, with the help of a range of creative filmmaking mentors!
      • AI for Healthcare Hackathon (Online/VIC, 21 April-15 May) – This hackathon is an AI-driven tribute to the healthcare sector – hosted and organized by Stratiteq, in partnership with Microsoft. The challenges will be presented by leading Healthcare Institutions across Europe.
      • CODER 1: AI Sports Challenge 2021 (Online/NSW, 22 April-7 May) – A fun and exciting AI programming tournament open to all. Compete against teams across the globe by programming your own bot to play in an online multiplayer AI game.

      • UniHack 2021 (Online/VIC, 5-7 March) – This is Australia’s largest student (university) Hackathon. A great opportunity to build an idea, pitch it and potentially win prizes.
      • Hack for Community Impact (Ipswich, QLD, 26-28 March) – This hackathon designed for secondary students brings together bright minds, creative creators and community collaborators who are prepared to contribute and ideate to create change and drive impact.
      • 2020 Hear For You Hackathon (Brisbane, 27-28 March) – This is an amazing opportunity for young deaf and hard of hearing QLD people (15 to 30 years of age) to engage in creative problem solving and generating solutions to a specific challenge.

      • India Australia Circular Economy Hackathon (Online, 9-10 February) – This hackathon will give participants the opportunity to explore and develop ideas relating to one of four topics relating to circular economy.
      • #HackinSAS (Online/NSW, 15 Feb – 31 March) – This global hackathon is designed to use data for social good in new and creative ways.

      • The AI Sports Challenge 2020 (Online, 11-18 December) – This is a virtual event for developers of all levels with an interest in AI to test their programming and problem-solving skills. Code your own bot to compete in an online multiplayer game, and be the last bot standing.

      • ActInSpace Adelaide (Adelaide, 13-14 November) – This international innovation contest is set to inspire young women and men worldwide to meet challenges based on space technologies, data, patents and infrastructures to launch start-ups into all areas of our daily lives.
      • DefHacks 2.0 (Online, 14-15 November) – This is a free 36-hour event for high school and college students. It is a worldwide event in which students of all skill levels around can collaborate to create innovative projects to solve the world’s problems.

      • Environmental Impact Challenge, Perth (Perth, 2 October) – 10-21 years old? Passionate about the environment? This is your chance to develop solutions to create a better future!
      • NASA Space Apps Hackathon (Online, 2-4 October) – Teams will engage with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.

      • Data4Good Hackathon (Online, 6-14 August) – An all women online hackathon around health during COVID19 for STUDENTS OF UTS. This hackathon is perfect for both those who love playing with data, and those who don’t, especially those who have never been to a hackathon before.

      • SOS Crypto Hackathon (Online, 29 May – 16 June) – This hackathon gives people an opportunity to gain funding for ideas and solutions to help the world during crisis.
      • NASA Space Apps Challenge (Online, 30-31 May) – This 48 hour hackathon provides participants with Earth observation data to develop solutions to issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

      • Trade Hack – Tackling Waste in Trades (Canberra, 2-3, 16-17 March) – This hackathon looks to solve the problem of waste creation in trades and is open to a range of ideas, from community driven ideas to technology based ideas.
