New Must Have Apps and a Workshop to Save Your Community
Creating innovation workshops, toolkits and processes can be hard work. It’s not just a matter of sitting down and writing out a few exercises in the hope that some kind of magic will take place. It requires planning, creativity – and empathy. It requires you thinking about the flow of an event, the people in the room and the outcomes you are hoping to achieve. It requires focus and design. Creativity and constraint.
Social impact – putting your head, heart and hands to work
Some time ago, I was lucky enough to go through an “asset mapping” workshop with social innovator, Donnie Maclurcan. There was over 150 people in the room and the workshop promised to energised all participants as a “community”. I must admit to being sceptical. I could not see how placing post-it notes on the walls was going to help us connect with each other on a deep level.
But I was soon to be surprised.
Donnie explained that everything we needed to solve pressing problems in our communities was available right there in the room. The participants held the keys – and all we needed to do was map our assets:
- Head – what we knew
- Heart – what we were passionate about
- Hands – what we could do.
A couple of hours later and deals were being done, connections made and friendships firmed.
Since then I have modified the approaches and used the workshop techniques to successfully build connections and momentum within community and business groups. And now, you too can.
